         College Alumnae Make Their Mark

Miami Dade College Alumni are recognized nationally and internationally
for their accomplishments in various industries and communities
         throughout the country.

Recognized in higher education, MDC alumna Dr. Elsa Murano became
the first woman, first Hispanic and first person under 50 to be tapped for
the Presidency of Texas A&M University, the nation’s sixth-largest public
university. From October 2001 through 2004, she was Under Secretary
for Food Safety with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.  As the highest
ranking food safety official in the U.S. Government, she provided oversight and
direction for the 10,000 employees of the Food Safety and Inspection
Service, working to improve public health through the application of
         science in policy decisions.

Honored for excellence in education, Reva A. Vangates received the
Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership at the
Elementary School Level from the Florida Department of Education.
Ms. Vangates attributes her professional success to the education and
support she received as a business administration major at MDC.
“Having small class sizes, caring professors and an excellent academic
program made my educational experience at MDC meaningful and
         enjoyable,” she said.
