Miami Dade College (MDC) honored 28 of its successful alumni with its top recognition, induction into the college’s Alumni Hall of Fame, at a gala dinner April 22, at the Hilton Miami Downtown. The high energy event raised $1.7 million for student scholarships.
The ceremony celebrated the career achievements of renowned former students such as Bernard Zyscovich - president and managing partner of Zyscovich Architects, Nelson Lazo – CEO of Doctors Hospital, Marybel Rodriguez – news anchor and reporter for WFOR CBS Channel 4, Michael Kosnitzky – partner at Boies, Schiller & Flexner, Alex Agurcia - founder and president of Omni Direct, Inc., Jencarlos Canela - singer and actor, retired Major League baseball player Orlando Palmeiro, and other influential leaders in their respective fields.
MDC President Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón, himself an MDC alumnus, praised the honorees. “These deserving alumni are proof that a solid education opens doors and creates great career opportunities. The Alumni Hall of Fame is honored to add their names to the group of luminaries we celebrate each year. They are doing so much in our community and across our nation, and make us all very proud.” Past MDC Alumni Hall of Fame honorees include actor Andy Garcia, music industry mogul Emilio Estefan, Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Nilo Cruz, former Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, former Miami Dolphins great Nat Moore, Carnival Chairman & CEO Micky Arison and United States Congresswoman Ileana Ros Lehtinen, among other distinguished leaders across America.
